This was a fairly major job carried out for some regular customers at their house in Polruan. One of their shower rooms was well past its best and they wanted it completely refurbished.
The shower room was probably installed in the 1980's.
The tiles had previously been repaired with non-matching tiles.
Some of the tiles were failing and starting to fall off.
The shower area was in poor condition with evidence of leaking. There was also a step down into the tray which was not good for the customer.
There were also a lot of ugly surface mounted pipes.
The main aims of the job were to solve all the structural problems with the room, install a bigger shower tray with no step, re-tile the walls with up-to-date tiles and fit a new electric shower, better lighting and modern sanitary-ware.
It's always good once all the old tiles and fittings are removed and the rebuild can begin.
The outside wall had to be re-framed as the old woodwork had completely rotted. All old and disused wiring was removed by a qualified electrician and the first fix electrics installed.
Checking that the existing soil pipe will fit together with the new toilet pan once the tiles are in place.
Preparing the marine ply base for the new shower tray.
Where required the walls were lined with Wedi boards ready for tiling. The outside wall was insulated with Celotex first then lined with Wedi which adds a bit more insulation too.
Getting started with the tiling. The tiles were 300 x 600mm.
The wall tiling was nearly finished at this stage.
We are grateful to Dave Peat Waste for their help on this job. One shower-room really did generate a whole skip of rubbish!
Completed wall and floor tiling, ceiling repainted and toilet and sink installed.
New electric shower with concealed pipework.
New mirror and sink. It was important to the customer to have his wooden shelves back as they were before the refurbishment. We reused the timber (shortened slightly) but used new twin-slot brackets as the old ones were rusty.
The shower tray is now level with the floor which is much safer for the customer.
The lighting was improved by installing IP65 rated led lights. We are very grateful to Tony Bartlett Electrician for his assistance with this job.
The new shower tray is around twice the size of the original.
The customer was really pleased with his new shower room and couldn't wait to try it out!
