Bathroom refurbishment

This job was an urgent repair carried out in a rental property in Liskeard. We have worked for the owners of the property on a number of occasions.

Initially, we were asked to investigate a leak from the bath/shower which was dripping through the ceiling in the room below. We discovered that water had been leaking under the bath for some time and this had rotted the chipboard floor. The only proper fix was therefore to remove the bathroom suite and carry out a full makeover of the bathroom.

Due to the Covid situation, we felt the only safe way for the work to be carried out was for the tenants to temporarily move out. They agreed to do this and a date was booked for the work to be done. In the meantime we carried out some temporary repairs so that they could continue to use their bathroom.

Leaking tiles

Once we started removing the bathroom we could see that the water had been seeping down behind the tiles and had rotted the plasterboard and the chipboard.

The whole floor was removed, the joists treated with a timber preservative and reinforced in places.

New bathroom floor

Once the new chipboard was laid, the worst part of the job was over!

New walls and showerbath

Instead of using plasterboard, the walls around the bath were built from STS construction board which is waterproof and a much better choice for this type of application. The new shower-bath was set in place ready for tiling to begin.

New tiles in Liskeard

Some large modern tiles were chosen and these went up well on the STS construction board.

Bathroom makeover

Once the tiling was completed, the sink and toilet were fitted and the shower bath plumbed in. The bath panel and shower screen were also fitted.

The finishing off jobs included fitting new skirting boards where required and then decorating the bathroom with new mould-resistant paint throughout.

Shower bath

The job turned out well and was completed on schedule so that the tenants could move back in as planned. They were very pleased to have a new bathroom.
