Fitting dado rail on stairs

This was an interesting project to fit Dado rail on a regular customer's staircase to protect the walls when cases are being carried up or down.

The job was in a period house which has a staircase with a quarter space landing to turn the stairs through 90 degrees. We collected the Dado from the merchants and sanded and primed it in our workshop ready for fitting. The walls were marked out using masking tape and a visual check made that the Dado would look right with the stairs. We then worked out the correct angles to cut the Dado and cut all the pieces with a mitre saw. Fitting was then relatively simple using adhesive and screws.

The customer generally does her own decorating so we left the Dado ready primed for her. The job turned out well and the customer was pleased with the result.
