Smoke and Carbon Monoxide

We fit battery-powered Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms

We care about the safety of our customers and always recommend that they have the right Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms in their homes.

Many people do not realise that smoke alarms have a limited life of 10 years and we regularly find alarms that are out of date or do not have batteries fitted. We can check the dates on your alarms and replace them if necessary.

Carbon Monoxide has been very much in the news lately, and there is a big campaign to raise awareness of the dangers and to get alarms fitted. We have fitted a large number of Carbon Monoxide alarms already and are well able to help with this.

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015

This law came into effect on the 1st October 2015. It requires Landlords to fit a Carbon Monoxide alarm in any room containing a solid fuel burning appliance (i.e. rooms containing an open fire, log burning stove, etc.). However, it does not state that CO alarms are required in rooms which have gas appliances. But in the guidance booklet issued on gov.uk it states, "as gas appliances can emit carbon monoxide, we would expect and encourage reputable landlords to ensure that working carbon monoxide alarms are installed in rooms with these".

East Cornwall Handyman would suggest that all customers and landlords should have Carbon Monoxide Alarms fitted in all rooms that have fuel burning appliances (gas, oil, coal, wood) and that the recommendations of the alarm manufacturer are carefully followed.
